Remote Desktop for pc

Hi, I have been trying out PocketCloud which allows me to control my windows based laptop from my ipad. This has been great so far, because I can project any documents I have created and I can create new ones as well using word, etc. because I am using the pc remotely.  I can even right click, save, print, etc.  Love it so far!

iPad cart

Please note that Virginia has the cart for next week.  Please consider Brewster's suggestion of having students explore subject specific apps and provide reviews.  This would allow all of us to collect a larger amount of student data.  There are still some of you that have not picked up adapters or iTunes cards.  If you have purchase apps, you need to provide a short review in the work group or blog.  We will be attempting to set up a site visit to a school that uses one to one iPads sometime in November.  I have also posted some info below for a webinar.  The one to one stuff may be of interest and the Google information may pertain to us if we switch to Google next year.

Dear John,

Learn how East Leyden High School’s digital evolution is helping better prepare their students for the future and how they were able to successfully build and launch a 1:1 program for all 3,500 students in their school district in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park, Illinois.

You’ll hear directly from the principal as well as from their tech specialist team and students about how they created an initial pilot program of 300 before deciding on a full rollout with Google Chromebooks for Education, after reviewing a number of different technology options. You'll hear how Chromebooks help students personalize their learning–a crucial element increasing attendance and engagement and helping students take more rigorous classes to meet the new student achievement goals and criteria set forth by the school.

To help with your 1:1 initiatives, East Leyden High School will share how they:

Successfully built and launched a 1:1 program for all 3,500 students
Launched Leyden’s Digital Evolution, a campaign to help students keep up with the changing times and enhance their educational experience
Chose Chromebooks (after reviewing other tech options)

Google Chromebooks for Education allows schools, like East Leyden, to use the power and simplicity of the web for unlimited teaching and learning opportunities and that will engage all constituents from parents, students, teachers, and administrators.

This is a session you don't want to miss!

2 apps i like

here is a link to the ShowMe app. this app is great (especially with a stylus in hand) if you want to demonstrate a math problem, draw something, explain formulas etc... The best part is that you can erase what you've just demonstrated and write or draw something else while continuing to record. So for example I was demonstrating how to properly write cursive letters. I was able to demonstrate each letter and record the entire process in one video.

Another great app is videoliscous you can take up to ten snapshots and record your voice over each one into a video slideshow. If you pay for it, you can import more than ten images for your video. You decide when to switch the slide as you record your voice. This would be great for students on a field trip capturing images on site and adding voice later.

Maybe Adv Com is on to something!

I need to order cases for the teacher iPads to be deployed at the beginning of the school year within the next few days.

I would appreciate feedback from members of the group regarding cases they have used. If anyone would like to suggest a different case than what we provided, I will gladly consider it.
